I am interested in how past, present, and landscape work to shape each other and I see kinetic experience – the feeling of being physically located through the act of moving – as a means of exploring how this works.

My figures exist in pictorial spaces that refer to natural spaces while offering the emotional tonalities of memory and imagination. Sometimes my figures look forward, sometimes they look backward. Sometimes they mirror each other, almost but not quite the same person moving back and forth in time. Though they are adults, they are often engaged in movement associated with childhood play.

In my paintings, I use a process of accretion and erosion that mimics weather and results in imagery that refers to processes of geology and the actions of the physical universe. In my prints, I recycle, translating traditional materials into digital media, bringing them into the future.

I think of the life process, with its inevitable challenges of growth, thought, coping and change, as itself quite literally a space and I am interested in visualizing what it feels like to move through it.
